My placement takes place in Wilcox Elementary and I am in a kindergarten classroom. I go to the classroom on Mondays from 1-3pm and Thursday from 8:30-10:30. There are 24 students in the class. There are no students with diagnosed special needs however, this is a wide range of academic level. The class consists of two African American students and the rest are Caucasian.
While I am in the classroom on Monday, the students start of by sitting on the carpet while my MT reads them a story. They then do a craft/project on a part of the book. Afterwards the students rotate to the other two kindergartens classrooms where they participate in a science lesson and the computer lab.Sometimes I rotate with the students which I enjoy because I get to see the other teachers way of teaching and how the students interact with other teachers. When I don't rotate with the students I stay in the classroom with my MT and I also enjoy this because I also get to work and interact with the students in the other classrooms and see how they learn compared to my usual class.
Thursday mornings, I see the students prepare for their day such as calendar, weather, etc,. The students then work on the letter and sound of the week. The students then go to their literacy centers where they work on forming sentences and letter sound knowledge. I usually help and observe the students at one of these centers. I really enjoy working with the students and look forward to another great semester.
