Hello, hello!
I am placed at Wexford Montessori Elementary in a grade that has fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. There is not a predominant race or socioeconomic status in my classroom, though all of my students speak English. Well, with exception to a new student who moved here from Iran. She is still learning, and very quickly might I add. There are about twenty five students in my class, though that number is in flux. My mentor teaching is a fearsome woman to behold, and she commands her classroom brilliantly. Unfortunately, she is there mostly for the children, and I often have to make work for myself. In the Montessori model, the students have a lot of responsibility but have a great amount of freedom to choose what they do. I can always find tons of ways to insert myself into their learning and help them out. And, if I could describe the classroom to an outsider who has never experienced Montessori, well I would have to just call it organized chaos. Beautifully organized productive chaos.
