Goerke_My Placement

     My field placement is in a kindergarten class at Wilcox Elementary in Holt. My mentor teacher has been a big help in my learning process as a teacher. When I arrive the children are participating in morning group time. Here the children took at the weather, do some math activities like counting the children in the class, and they also go over their words of the week and other reading/letter exercises. After this my mentor teacher explains what the children will be writing their story about. Then they break into their tables and start writing. After writing, then comes literacy centers. During this time the children move around five literacy centers. I help with one of the centers.There are 24 students in my class. Most of the children are pretty eager to work, some need a few gente reminders to keep them on track with the task at hand.  

       So far I have seen one math lesson and that was on shapes. It was actually an interesting and interactive lesson. I certain number of children were selected to make shapes like a triangle. square and a rectangle. The students responded well to it. There will be more math lessons throughout the semester during my time that I am there.
