My Vision

As a teacher, I will strive to create an engaging classroom which allows for students to learn using authentic examples (and materials) and renders enjoyment in learning mathematics. After taking this course, I have definitely found the importance of 'doing mathematics', rather than simply having my students memorize information.  I think that integrating authentic experiences will become my primary source of taking mathematics tasks to a higher, more cognitively demanding level.

I hope to create connections between every subject by relating math tasks to the content in the language arts, history or science lessons. With that said, I would like to publish student work around the room, and when the subject of mathematics is taught solely on it's own, this is rather difficult to do. By stringing together all of the subjects, I will be able to post relevant math work on the walls and still have them look appealing.

I would like for my students to accomplish becoming great students, which calls for them to be able to notice their own strength and areas to improve. I hope for my students to be able to work each other by finding solutions in group settings, rather than simply comparing work with a partner. Of course, I will strive to make certain that each of my students meet the standards of the grade I am teaching, but I hope that they find great value in their work (and not just try to find the right answer).

  1. You do a great job of being very specific about what one might see as they look around your future classroom...And it sounds like you have a clear plan about what you want to accomplish next year.

Your work as a curriculum planner is well laid out here. But the teacher herself is somewhat absent from the visual classroom description...What will you be doing in this classroom? How will you be interacting with your students as they engage in the mathematics?
